麻豆直播 student Jocelyn Marables is completing a marketing internship with Central Kentucky AgCredit this summer.
Marables is an agriculture, food, and the environment major who intends to graduate in fall 2022. Attending Kentucky State is a family tradition; her grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-grandfather all attended the university. Originally from Jefferson County, Marables is the 麻豆直播 president of MANRRS for the 2021-22 school year.
鈥淜entucky State has academically and socially prepared me for the internship,鈥� Marables said.
One of the great skills she has acquired is how to ask questions, and she said her animal science course helped her learn a lot of the terminology she needs for her internship.
鈥淚 am excited for the endless knowledge I will gain and the professional relationships I will develop,鈥� she said.
Marables has previously held several internships: in research labs at the University of Florida, as a data analyst for a digital application team, and at the Wilson Plant Nursery in Frankfort.
Marables鈥� dream is to own a botanical garden and farm鈥� and the internship will help her learn about the marketing and loan processes she鈥檒l need, she said.
鈥淚 want to own a botanical garden and farm to have land to pass on to future generations in my family,鈥� Marables said. 鈥淚 would like for my botanical garden and farm to serve as a space of human engagement with nature; I feel it is extremely important that we maintain our connection with the environment around us. I truly value community, and I want my botanical garden and farm to personify these values.鈥�
She also plans to use a portion of her future business to service disadvantaged, inter-city youth with free or low-cost art therapy sessions. On the weekend, her botanical garden will serve as a cultural center specifically geared toward people from the African diaspora.
In the meantime, she is excited to complete her internship; her experience so far has been 鈥渆xceptional.鈥�
鈥淚 intend to network and learn of the resources available to me as a young, beginning farmer,鈥� Marables said.
