Award-winning childrenās author Sharon Draper spoke to about 650 fifth-graders on
Tuesday about her book āOut of My Mindā at KSUās Bradford Hall. The energetic speaker
gave advice to the young readers about writing their own books in the future.
āGo into writing for the love, not the money,ā Draper said. āHave a feeling inside
and put it on paper.ā
āOut of My Mindā was one of the featured books in the āOne Book, One Frankfortā reading
program at The Paul Sawyier Public Library. The program encourages kids in the Franklin
County area to read and discuss the same book.
Draper, who has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year, is a five-time winner
of the Coretta Scott King Literary Awards. She is a New York Times bestselling author and is the 2015 recipient for the Margaret A. Edwards Award for
lifetime literary achievement.
